Welcome to Camp Iona!

We are a residential self-catering camp in North Otago.

Set inland from Herbert among rolling farmland, a peaceful DOC reserve, and a stone’s throw away from the Waianakarua River, Camp Iona is the perfect place to settle down and enjoy the tranquil setting and outdoors.

Founded in 1938 the camp has been a part of North Otago and its surrounding districts for over 75 years attracting thousands and children and adults alike.

Not far from Oamaru, the Camp Iona campsite sits on 2.2 hectares of land with native bush and walking tracks nearby.

When you stay, the camp site provides you with sleeping accommodation in bunkrooms and shared communal facilities of toilets, showers, kitchen and dining room space.

There is indoor accommodation for 106 people in total*. Available group booking dates can be identified on the Booking Calendar page. Contact us for a booking.

 

However if you are an individual or smaller party, the self-contained Lodge may be available and can sleep 10. It has sleeping accommodation in 3 separate rooms of 2 or 3 beds and one room with a double bed, plus shared other facilities. Please contact us using the options on the Contact Us page to check on availability.
